Recent BCBP Graduate Awarded Prestigious Fellowship
Dr. Nairita Maitra, a 2021 Polymenis Lab graduate, received a three-year fellowship from the Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund for Medical Research (a.k.a the JCC Fund). It is one of the most competitive and sought-after postdoctoral fellowships. The JCC Fund is known for its rigorous selection process. Over the years, JCC Fund scientific advisors, grantees, and fellows have been awarded 22 Nobel prizes.
After obtaining her Ph.D., Nairita joined Dr. Sue Biggins’ lab at Seattle’s HHMI/ Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The fellowship will support Nairita’s studies on the role of sumoylation in the kinetochore-microtubule interactions, which govern chromosome segregation in all eukaryotic cells. Congratulations Nairita! Your #TAMUBCBP ‘family’ is proud of you and wishes you success in your scientific endeavors.
