On September 13, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences held their College Awards Ceremony. The ceremony consisted of the recognition of new, promoted, and tenured faculty, presentation of awards, 2018 special recognition, and recipients of National and University-level awards. In the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, we had one new faculty member and six faculty members that were promoted. Dr. Stephanie Perez- New Faculty Dr. Vishal Gohil and Dr. Lanying Zeng- Promotion to Associate Professor and Tenure Dr. Chavela Carr, Dr. Michelle Pozzi, and Dr. Megan Reynolds- Promotion to Senior Lecturer Dr. Xiuren Zhang- Promotion to Professor Unfortunately. Dr. Perez, Dr. Carr, Dr. Pozzi, and Dr. Reynolds were unable to attend the ceremony. Back in July, seven out of our eight nominees won the Dean's Outstanding Achievement Award, which are the highest awards in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences presented to faculty, staff, and students. Dr. Dorothy Shippen- Administration Sarah Hartman- Graduate Teaching Dr. Junjie Zhang- Early Career Research Dr. Jim Sacchettini- Research Melissa Kay- Staff Morgan Gable- Undergraduate Research Dr. Leisha Mullins- Teaching Unfortunately, Dr. Shippen was unable to attend. Dr. Carol Vargas accepted the award on her behalf since Dr. Shippen was at a conference. In addition, Rafael Almanzar, was recognized for the President's Meritorious Service Award and Dr. Ryland Young, was recognized as a Distinguished Professor.
